It is the nature of Wastewater Treatment Plants to harbor odors related to the materials they process. Fortunately, the Chelsea Wastewater plant is able to contain those odors for most of the year. However, twice annually—once in Spring and once in Fall—the Wastewater department must transport biosolids from the plant to the agricultural community. The movement of these materials does generate strong odors during that short transition period. Northeast winds can further increase the intensity for brief periods of time. This is a necessary part of maintining a healthy wastewater system and the City appreciates your support during the transfer of biosolids and throughout the year.
