Public Safety is a 24-hour commitment with significant risks. There are a number of organizations and memorials dedicated to honoring and remembering the service and sacrifice of public safety officers and family members. The following organizations offer opportunities to show your support and get involved.
National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (http://www.nleomf.com/)
Thin Blue Line of Michigan (http://www.tblofmi.com/)
Officer Down Memorial Page (http://www.odmp.org/)
Chelsea's Fallen Officers
In 2006, Chelsea suffered the sudden loss of two officers killed in a helicopter accident in Scio Township while providing aerial support for officers who were involved in a foot pursuit. Police Chief R. Scott Sumner and Reserve Officer Matthew Tuttle are remembered by Chelsea residents with a Chelsea memorial in the front of the McKune Memorial Library and at the Washtenaw 100 Club Memorial Park in Ypsilanti, Michigan as shown below.
