Drunk Driving Saturation Patrol

The Chelsea Police Department will be participating in the High Visibility Enforcement Team, starting in the spring of 2010.

There will be many agencies working in conjunction with each other throughout the year focusing on specific areas to reduce drunk driving in Washtenaw County. Some of the agencies participating include Chelsea, Saline, Milan, University of Michigan Public Safety, Washtenaw County Sheriff, Michigan State Police and Pittsfield Township Public Safety.

Citizens will see many patrol cars (Saturated Patrol) from various jurisdictions working to reduce the number of drunk drivers on the roadway. You may see as many as 15 police cars in each area, such as the City of Chelsea. The goal of this type of saturation is to prevent drunk driving.

The program is funded through The Office of Highway Safety Planning. All Officers will be wearing reflective vests and will patrol these zones looking for violations of the motor vehicle code and signs that point to an intoxicated driver.
